Fife College Pledges its Commitment to the College Sport Award

2019 is off to a fantastic start for Fife College as the Principal, Hugh Hall and the Student Association President of Education and Representation, Carol Hunter confirmed the College’s commitment to the College Sport Award.

Fife College have signed up to the Award, a self-improvement framework for Colleges that wish to provide physical activity and sport opportunities to their students, staff and communities. The Award is a key project of Scottish Student Sport (SSS) and is part of their drive to build a world class system for physical activity and student sport. The Award is supported by the Scottish Funding Council, and endorsed by sportscotland and the College Development Network.

Speaking at the launch of the Award at Fife College’s Dunfermline Campus the Principal of Fife College Hugh Hall commented,

“I firmly believe we have one of the best Student Associations in Scotland here at Fife College and both the College and the Association are committed to working together to deliver excellent opportunities and support to our students.

“We are therefore delighted to sign the College Sport Award which will help us provide excellent physical activity and sport opportunities for our students. We look forward to working closely with Scottish Student Sport to promote physical activity and sport across the College.”

Scottish Student Sport’s Chief Operating Officer, Stew Fowlie said,

‘It is marvellous to be here at Fife College as they begin their College Sport Award journey. There is genuine integration of effort across the College and the Student Association and it is great to see that there is a shared commitment to physical activity and sport. The whole SSS team look forward to supporting Fife College as they progress purposefully through the Award over the years to come.’

In January, our Tayside, Fife and Grampian Regional Development Coordinator, Eilidh had a productive meeting with Martin Kelly (Director of Student Experience and Engagement), Craig Walker (Student Association Manager) and Gloria Laurini (Student Association Student Engagement Coordinator) which ended with the confirmation that Fife College will pledge to the CSA. The next stage for Fife College will be to achieve the entry level of the College Sport Award – whereupon they will receive £500 worth of equipment from SSS – and then begin working towards the Bronze level.

The rest of this academic year and beyond looks to be very promising for the students at Fife College. With the commitment and passion shown so far we have no doubt that they will make wonderful progress.
