Join In On Twitter To Stand Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia
Brought to you from our friends at LEAP Sports Scotland.
Friday 17th of May is the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOBIT) and Scottish Student Sport invite you to support us in showing a united front for the LGBTI Community at your College or University.
IDAHOBIT has become a landmark date for drawing attention to discrimination faced by LGBTI people across the globe. The day marks a great opportunity for you, your club or institution to personally show your support for the LGBTI community.
LEAP Sports Scotland have published an article which welcome the results of the first EU-wide survey based on direct experiences of LGBTI people in sport by German Sport University Cologne. Key findings of the study are;
- Almost 90% consider homophobia and particularly transphobia in sport to be a current problem.
- 20% of LGBTI people refrain from participating in their sport of choice which is especially high for
trans people (54%).
- One third of respondents who are active in sports have not revealed their sexual orientation or
gender identity to anybody in their sport.
This #IDAHOBIT we stand together in our commitment to eradicate this from sport in Scotland #DiverseSport
