This volunteer got us off to a running start in November delivering one of our largest events, not only for student numbers but acres of land it takes to run it, literally! She dedicated a huge amount of time engaging with student, planning two major events in the SSS Calendar and developed partnerships that will go forward. Our December Volunteer of the Month has to go to Sophie Collins of the University of Edinburgh Hares and Hounds Club.
Towards the end of November Sophie delivered two hugely successful events on back to back weekends, bringing Scottish Student Cross Country to the front of our events calendar. Both events were dynamic, fun and exciting for the hundreds of students that attended.
Sophie, a strong and established member of the Edinburgh University Hares and Hound committee, delivered the Scottish Student Sport Cross Country Championships on our behalf. In doing so she created new exciting partnerships with the Local authorities in Edinburgh while also introduced a new and challenging venue and course to the Scottish Student running community.
Through Sophie’s hard work and interactions with the relevant bodies and authorities the event was able to support and make charitable donation to the ‘My Park Scotland’ initiatives, which was something very new and positive for our cross country events.
The Cross Country championships is a huge event within Scottish Student Sport, regularly attracting well over 150 competitors. This year Sophie rose to this challenge with a constant smile and huge amounts of energy. Nothing was ever too much trouble and her fantastic attention to detail was why the event ran so smoothly and was the success it was. Because of that we believe she is a deserving winner of SSS volunteer of the month
Many congratulations Sophie, we feel you are more than a deserving winner of our Volunteer of the Month!!
