Welcoming Neil to the Tribe

Scottish Student Sport welcomed their first signing in the summer transfer window. Neil Rankin has joined the gang as South East Regional Development Coordinator and is off to a flying start.

Give a brief overview of your career journey… where you’ve come from, what you’ve done!

I retrained to pursue a career in sport in 2015 by doing a postgraduate degree at University of Edinburgh in Sport Policy, Management and International Development. From there I did an operations internship at the Swiss Academy for Development in Switzerland where I managed the online platform sportanddev.org. I then moved to London to undertake project work for Beyond Sport before moving to Commonwealth Games England. Finally I joined BUCS to undertake a consultation on BUCS Super Rugby and deliver change to the programme.

How you feel about your new role and what are you looking forward to most?

I am excited to return to Edinburgh and work in Scottish sport. I am most looking forward to getting out and meeting members to build a picture of the landscape in Scotland.

Tell us about a student sport highlight?

At University of Aberdeen I was part of the football team that won the AFC Trophy for the first time in over 40 years – and scored in the final!

What is your favourite sport to play and watch?

I have played and watched football all my life and a highlight was travelling away with the Tartan Army. Working more broadly in sport has opened my eyes a bit and I also enjoy watching athletics and rugby. I enjoy running and I’ll be undertaking my third half marathon later this year in Glasgow.

We are very excited to have Neil on board!
