Fencing Beginners (SS Games)

SSS Beginners is back as part of the Scottish Student Games – the multi-sport event that takes over the City of Edinburgh and City of Glasgow!

This fencing event is open to any fencer currently studying at university or further education college and who started fencing since September 2020. Ideal for fencers looking to do their first competition

Venue: ENgage, Napier University
Date: 4th-5th February 2023
Time: 1030-1730 (exact timetable will be released once entries close)

Eligibility: Open to any fencer currently studying at university or college and who started fencing since September 2020. Ideal for fencers looking to do their first competition.
Fencers must hold and in-date Starter, Recreational or Full Licence from British Fencing, and student card, which they must show at check-in.

Entries: Entries are now closed

Format and Rules:
2 rounds of poules (group stage) followed by direct elimination based on seeding from the poules. Fencers will be randomly drawn and separated by club. All fencers will be promoted from the poules and both rounds will count towards the direct elimination seeding.

Armourer: An armourer will be on site to address equipment issues each day for a small fee. Please make sure you bring cash to cover any repair costs.

Maximum Capacities:
MF – 48; ME – 48; MS – 36; WF – 36; WE – 36; WS – 36. A waiting list will be in operation and extra capacity in other weapons may be allocated to oversubscribed weapons after the entry deadline.

Saturday Check-In Times
1030-1100 – Men’s Foil
1045-1115 – Women’s Epee
1145-1215 – Women’s Sabre

Sunday Check-In Times
1100-1130 – Men’s Epee
1115-1145 – Women’s Foil
1200-1230 – Men’s Sabre

Medals: Medals will be awarded to the top 4 in each weapon, as long as there are 5 of more entrants in to each weapon.
