Judo Individual Championships and Training Day (SS Games)

We are excited to announce that the Judo Championships will be back as part of the Scottish Student Games! This is the largest, multi event for students hosted in Scotland and will take over the City of Edinburgh and City of Glasgow!

This year, the Judo Championships will offer a Mixed Team competition, in place of separate Men’s and Women’s Teams too!

The Sunday will feature a Training Day to give students the chance to learn from a brilliant coach and socialise even further.

Eligibility: All players must hold a valid UK license (JudoScotland, BJA, WJA, NIJF, etc). No non-UK licenses will be permitted.

All players must be students studying at a Scottish Institution, or be distance learning at non-Scottish institutions but normally domiciled in Scotland.

S5 and S6 high school students are also welcome and should select ‘Guest’ as their ‘institution’ when asked.

Check-In:  All competitors must provide proof of current,UK Judo licence (JudoScotland, BJA, WJA, NIJF or affiliate), as well as proof of student status (student card for college / university students, appropriate email or other proof from current S5/S6 school attenders).

Weigh-Ins:

Friday Evening – Available to any competitor who attends and assists in moving and laying mats / setting up event tech for the day. Weigh in will take place as soon as the event is set up. Access to the venue will be from 6pm, please contact me if you are available and willing to help with the mat move.

Saturday –
4th – 2nd kyu 0915 – 1015
Novice – 5th kyu 1030 – 1115
1st kyu & above 1130 – 1215

All competitors will weigh-in with contest legal judogi trousers and a t-shirt and will be given the following allowances:

Competitors in categories up to u63kg / u66kg = 0.6kg allowance

Competitors in categories u70kg / u73kg or over = 0.8kg allowance

Training Day:

Sunday 5th February from 10am we are delighted to announce special guest coach, Samuel Ingram, who will be leading the National Student Training Day. Sam is the JudoScotland Regional Development Officer covering the East of the country.

Before retiring from senior competition in 2019 – as a Paralympic judoka, Sam Ingram (Great Britain) won silver at the Paralympic Games London in 2012 U90kg. In 2015 he won bronze at the IBSA European Championships in Lisbon. In 2015 he won silver at the IBSA World Games in Seoul. He won the IBSA World Cup Eger in 2015. He was also European champion in 2013 in Eger (HUN). He won the Visual Impaired Grand Prix in Birmingham in 2016. Won senior bronze at the British Championships in 2013.

All competitors, coaches, officials and club mates are welcome to attend the training day.
