“Strong competition at university is absolutely vital and events like this really give student athletes something to work towards – it becomes a focal point for the sporting calendar”.

Both universities will be hoping to emulate Glasgow Warriors strong start to their season following big wins against Connacht and Leinster in the Pro 12.

The players only need to look to fellow student and Glasgow Warrior, James Malcolm when it comes to dealing with big game pressure.

Malcolm is currently studying towards an Engineering degree at Strathclyde’s city centre campus, combining his academic studies with the demands of professional rugby.

Student rugby in the city has grown to new heights and the inaugural Glasgow Rugby Varsity is set up to be a closely fought match between two very ambitious university rugby clubs.
