SSS Festive Gathering

Are you Feeling Festive?! The Annual SSS Festive Gathering returns for another year on Tuesday 7th December. Check out the full line-up and sign up today!

Festive Gathering is the annual opportunity for the SSS community to network with colleagues across the country, enjoy panel discussions, workshops and celebrate a successful first semester of student sport.

There are plenty of ways YOU can get involved this year!

Dust off your festive jumpers and get active! We’re looking for the best #FestiveFitness photos to be shared on social media during the week of 29th November to 5th December. Just snap the photo as an individual or team, and tag @ScotStuSport and #FestiveFitness on social media. Prizes for the best team and individual photos – with winners decided at Festive Gathering on 7th December.

SSS Podcast

Following the inspirational November edition of the #SSSPOD we are bringing you a special festive edition of the podcast. Join Stew and Gav as we take a look back at the highlights from the year gone by. With the return of sports activity, competition and the delivery of a number of development projects this year, we will be joined by members from the network to share some of their best bits from semester one. Keep an eye out for the pod going live and listen along on your morning commute or lunchtime walk on the day of Fezzy-G.

Festive Gathering – Tuesday 7th December, 2-5pm – sign up HERE.

We will be holding a General Meeting from 13:15 to 13:45, immediately before the start of the Festive Gathering, on Tuesday 7th December. A brief update from the COO will be followed by a presentation of the 2020/21 accounts and a vote to adopt the accounts. All member institutions will be invited to vote, with one vote per member. The 2020/21 accounts are available on the About page of the website.

We welcome Dr Adam Hawkey to Festive Gathering for the first time. Adam is Associate Professor of Sport Science and Human Performance and the Strategic Lead for Knowledge Exchange at Solent University Southampton. He has also worked with the University of Dundee, the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences and NASA!

We’ll take a solution-focussed look at the future delivery of sport and physical activity. SSS will facilitate workshops on understanding the future challenges and how delivery will change. There will be an opportunity to share best practice with colleagues across the network and discuss some of positive projects that have worked in semester one look at areas for improvement.

Ever wondered what life is really like in the athletes village at the Olympic and Paralympic Games? We’ll hear from those who were at Tokyo 2020 in what was a successful, yet surreal, Games for Team GB.

Charlotte Henshaw, a former University of Stirling swimmer, will share her insight from taking part in the Games and the challenges she’s overcome being a para-athlete and changing sports. We’ll also hear from David Bond, Head of Performance Sport at University of Stirling, about the impact and role of elite sport for an institution, and the panel will be chaired by Sarah Gandon from SSS and Netball Players Association.

We’ll also be live from Lucerne at the World University Games with Chef de Mision Chris Purdie.
