Scottish Student Sport are delighted to partner with Row Britannia to support their inspiring new initiative aimed at raising awareness for mental health in students and young people.

Row Britannia is an inclusive (adaptive sport) mental health, fitness and wellbeing challenge by the British Inspiration Trust (BRIT) which aims to raise positive awareness and vital funds for Sport Relief.

The Row Britannia Challenge for Sport Relief is a UK-wide campaign event that will bring together a whole range of universities, colleges, education and sports governing bodies, British sporting icons and communities.

The Challenge: Row Britannia is a team challenge rowing challenge whereby teams are invited to row 2020 miles between 12th November 2019 and 13th March 2020 to raise money for Sport Relief.

The three main aims of the campaign are too:

  • Support student mental health, fitness and wellbeing whilst fundraising for Sport Relief
  • Deliver inspiration and raise awareness by inviting British Sporting Icons and Mental Health Ambassadors to visit universities and colleges throughout the 4-month challenge.
  • Secure pledges from corporations, businesses and philanthropists and raise vital funds for our collaboration of Mental Health Charity Partners.

The Row Britannia Team have challenged every University Committee Chair, Vice-Chancellor and College Principal to work together and invite companies to pledge support and match their student fundraising targets in order to raise funds for our mental health charity partners.

Scottish Student Sport’s Chief Operating Officer Stew Fowlie is encouraging institutions to get involved with the campaign. He said:

“Mental Health affects us all and we will invite and encourage our Scottish Student Unions to register and row to raise funds for Sport Relief.”

“Scottish Student Sport are delighted to partner with Row Britannia and support this inspiring initiative for students and young people. We are delighted that this is an inclusive event and should any of our Student Unions need advice on Adaptive Rowing, we are here to assist. Mental Health affects us all and we will invite and encourage our Scottish Student Unions to register and row to raise funds for Sport Relief.

“We will also encourage University Vice-Chancellors and College Principles to work together and secure their collective fundraising targets for Row Britannia’s partner Mental Health Charities.”
