Student Shinty Season Returns
Sunday 1st of October saw the start of the Student Shinty season with the annual Freshers and rep squad event.
This year the event was held at Strathclyde University’s sports field for the first time. Praise must go to the ground staff who had the pitches in excellent condition despite the recent poor weather. Male and female teams from Robert Gordon, Dundee, St. Andrews, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Strathclyde attended the event.
Despite the driving rain and strong winds, the matches were contested in a very competitive and sporting manner, credit to the players who did their best to keep warm and dry throughout the day.
The women’s event was won by Robert Gordon University who carried on from their strong finish last season to win all of their matches despite only having a squad of six players with no subs. The Men’s event was eventually won by the University of Strathclyde after an excellent game which saw them defeat Edinburgh one nil, in what turned out to be the league deciding match.
Thanks must go to the three referees, David Mitchell, Ross Brown and Garry Luke who did extremely well in helping make the event the success it was.
