Stirling rub shoulders with Stanford at Royal Dornoch
The transatlantic tie saw the world’s number one amateur golfer Maverick McNealy take on Stirling’s Laird Shepherd and Alasdair McDougall. The Stirling boys birdied five of the first six holes, before McNealy and his teammate Franklin Huang’s accuracy help take and maintain the lead.
University of Stirling student golfers hosted players from one of the best universities in the world at Scotland’s prestigious Royal Dornoch Golf Club.
A team of scholarship players rubbed shoulders with their Stanford University counterparts as part of a friendly international meet-up.
The Californian team put Stirling students through their paces, sweeping all the points from the board.

High performance golf coach Dean Robertson said: “This was a great opportunity to some of our first year students the chance to see exactly what it takes at the very top level of the game. To play against the Stanford team was a joy for everyone involved and gave us great opportunity to share best practice and learn from some the best student golfers in the world.”
As Scotland’s University for Sporting Excellence, Stirling was the first university in the UK to offer golf scholarships with R&A and has supported more than 180 student golfing athletes to date.
