VOLUNTEERING | Equality Steering Group Ethnicity Lead

The Equality Steering Group was established to advise and prompt the staff, committees and networks of SSS on all relevant aspects of equality and inclusion

Role Title: Ethnicity Lead
Responsible to: Inclusion & Culture Coordinator
Where (location): Various within Scotland (online option always available)
Time commitment: Minimum 3-4 meetings per year with an expectation to co-lead the group’s vision and actions for students from diverse backgrounds.

Role description: The Equality Steering Group was established to advise and prompt the staff, committees and networks of SSS on all relevant aspects of equality and inclusion, with particular emphasis on ensuring adherence to a rolling Equality Action Plan for the organisation.
As a member you will work with the group to advise SSS on matters relating to equality and inclusion, including; data capture, reporting, training, culture, and event delivery. You will assist in shaping SSS’ long term approach to sportscotlands ‘Moving to Inclusion’ Framework by providing added capacity to SSS around relevant projects and developments.

Overall, you will represent the interests of students from diverse backgrounds within member institutions and student clubs in Scotland.

Main tasks:

• Contribute to the continued development of the Equality Action Plan and provide a quarterly report
• Work within group to identify key areas of work
• Drive specific outcomes as agreed by Chair and Group
• Gather feedback from student clubs and member institutions on Development Group areas of work
• Assist the Group work on sportscotland’s ‘Moving to Inclusion’ Framework
• Analyse areas of work and create key measures of success
Required skills, qualities and experience

• Proactive, can do attitude
• Lived experience is desirable
• Ability to identify gaps, develop and prioritise key areas of work
• Knowledge of student sport landscape in Scotland
• Commitment to represent students from diverse backgrounds across Scotland
• Ability to effectively communicate with a range of stakeholders, establish and grow partnerships
• Continue to build local, regional and national relationships
Training and support available:
• Any relevant CPD courses/experience as identified by Chair and Inclusion & Culture Coordinator
• Named staff member within SSS
