“Karate aims to build character, improve human behaviour, and cultivate modesty; it does not, however, guarantee it.”

Who plays? Elite success is balanced by the excellent training and coaching afforded to students of all levels from beginner upwards, which can make the attainment of a black belt within the duration of a university career possible.

What is there? The SSS Karate Championships take place around Easter each year, with male and female events for both kata and kumite, divided into novice and senior categories. The SSS Team Cup is a team competition focussed solely on team kumite, with both male and female events. Scottish Universities also take part in the British Universities Karate Championships.

When does all this happen? All the events are generally on the weekends and spaced throughout the course of the academic year.
