Key Information

The SSS Karate Programme involves two events: Championships and Team Cup.

The annual Championships includes male and female events (team and individual) for both kata and kumite, divided into novice and senior categories.

The SSS Team Cup is also run annually and caters for both novice and senior males, plus female team entries.

You might want to know…


  • All events are run in accordance with WKF rules and are spread throughout the course of the academic year

  • Scottish students are also encouraged to compete in the annual British University Karate Championships, usually held in February.


Meet your Sports Chair

Liz Rogers

Liz started Karate as an undergraduate at the University of Dundee, competing in both novice and senior categories and receiving her black belt in 2010. Upon completing her PhD, she progressed to coaching the University of Dundee club in competitions whilst working at the University.

She took on the role of Chair in 2016. Liz’s favourite thing about the sport is watching all of the Scottish student competitors excel in the British University Championships each year.
