Volleyball

“Sorry, Princess, not even Cinderella could get to this ball”

Who plays? There are 22 institutions currently participating in volleyball.

What is there?  The men’s and women’s SSS leagues are both tightly-contested. Each league comprises two divisions of university teams from throughout the Scottish Universities, with promotion and relegation at the end of each academic year. The winners of the league – which is played on Sundays from October through to March – are crowned Scottish Universities Champions.

The SSS Championship, an open cup competition, takes place annually in February with a men’s and women’s cup. In the summer months, there are more relaxed competitions, often including a Beach Volleyball Championship and a Scottish Students vs. Rest of the World fixture. Further to this, 2 SSS Volleyball Festivals are scheduled in the academic year as a one-off knock-out competition for universities and colleges.

When does all this happen? All the events are generally on the weekends and spaced throughout the course of the academic year.
