Student Hockey Conference

Following on the great success of the BUCS Hockey in Universities Conference this year and the previous two years, this year will see the first Student Hockey Conference held in Scotland.

Date: Tuesday 8th August 2017

Venue: Glasgow Green Football Centre (Next to the National Hockey Centre, Glasgow)

Time: 9:30am-9pm

Registration Deadline: 5pm, Monday 29th May 2017

Cost: FREE to all attendees, including your ticket to watch the Men’s EuroHockey Championship II taking place at the venue on that day (and for staff / coaches a GB workshop).

The conference will take place on Tuesday 8th August at the Glasgow National Hockey Centre and Glasgow Green Football Centre. We are excited to announce that this venue and day has been chosen to coincide with the Men’s EuroHockey Championship II, with two game taking place in the evening of that day – including the hosts, Scotland.

A strengthening relationship between Scottish Hockey and Scottish Student Sport (SSS) will see the both organisations co-host the event, with attendance from British Universities and Colleges Sport also. The conference open to two different categories of individuals which will determine with section of the conference to attend. The first section will be open to student club committee leaders, or nominated individuals, to help ensure you are fully equipped with information and tools you will need to run your club in the forthcoming season. The second section will be open to university professionals working with student hockey clubs and university hockey club coaches. More detailed information about each section can be found below.

The Student Conference

This event is jointly organised by Scottish Hockey Development staff, Scottish Student Sport and BUCS. There are a number of aims for the day including:

  • To provide information and guidance on all Scottish Hockey competitions and registration required
  • To discuss the development opportunities available for student clubs from Scottish Hockey
  • To network with your fellow captains on both a regional basis, to discuss regional support and resources, and on a club-size basis to learn from your peers and share best practice and initiatives
  • To hear about the ongoing work in developing Small sided hockey and how the format could support your club in terms of Fresher experience, growing membership, increasing finances and developing players.
  • To understand what support is available from Scottish Student Sport and how they can help your club.
  • A full provisional programme for the day is now available

All Scottish Universities and Colleges are invited to send up to two students to the Conference – one representing Women’s hockey and one for Men’s hockey. These students should ideally be the incoming club captains or presidents, as the training is focused on supporting them to lead their club throughout the year. The University Professionals and University Hockey Coach Conference

This section of the Conference will be hosted by SSS, BUCS and Scottish Hockey. The conference has the following key aims:

  • Provide university professionals working with clubs and university coaches the opportunity to understand what support is available from SSS, BUCS and Scottish Hockey.
  • Introduction to the new BUCS Hockey Development Manager.
  • To network with your fellow captains on both a regional basis, to discuss regional support and resources, and on a club-size basis to learn from your peers and share best practice and initiatives
  • Opportunity to attend a coaching workshop hosted by Scottish Hockey and GB Hockey
  • A full provisional programme for the day is now available
